Life Change

When you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change.

" You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go. " -

Expanding your comfort zone - Life Changes in Steps for permanant Life Changes

Life Changes can be difficult and down right scary.  Changing jobs, moving, loosing weight, getting in shape, are just some of the stressers.  Most of us are reluctant to change anything that stresses us or makes us uncomfortable.  We get into a comfortable pattern or a routine - it's our comfort zone and we don't like to go very far out of it.

However getting out of your comfort zone is good.  It's healthy, it means you're growing, learning, changing, and doing new and different things.  If you want to change your life, you have to do something different that you're doing now.   You have to get out of your comfort zone.  You don't have to jump out of your zone in one big leap, you can ease out of it gradually, with small changes that grow your comfort zone a little bit at a time.  So by starting small and working up to larger changes you can make the change easier and more gratifying.
Little baby steps can be the key to making major changes stick with you and become a permanent part of your life.

Here's some baby steps that work well.

For reducing your debt, pay a little more on it each month instead of buying that expensive coffee.  Pack a healthy lunch and use the savings to pay the debt.  When that's paid, scale it up a notch and pay yourself just a few dollars more a week by putting them into your reserve account or your 401k.  After a while you won't notice the squeeze but your account will reward you many times over.

For starting and increasing daily exercise, stand up while talking on the phone or working on the computer.  If you have a treadmill, stand on it while talking on the phone or watching TV.  Just get used to being on it.  After a week turn it on slow and walk.  After another week increase the speed, and so on.

When shopping, park a few places further from the door each time to increase your walking distance.   Eventually you'll be walking to the store.

When eating, take one less spoonful of the main dish and one more of the vegetables, unless of course the main dish is fish, which is loaded with healthy omega 3 fatty acids.  In this case have lots of both, and take time to enjoy the meal.

To get organized, put a couple of things in their place each day and put them back after you use them. File a few papers at a time and shred or toss a few every day.  Build the habits a little at a time, and they will seem natural after a while.

We all want the good things in life, physical fitness, health, financial security, inner peace.  To get these you have to have the desire and a plan to achieve them.  But sometimes the big picture isn't attainable all at once without a lot of pain and sacrifice.  Envision in your mind what you want, take baby steps toward your goal and it will be possible to reach you goal.

Remember to give thanks for what you do have and that you can achieve your goals by starting small and working up to them.

Exercise made more convenient

Here's a vintage fitness tip from Kathy Kaehler: "Make exercise possible by keeping your clothes and shoes close by. Keep a small bag in your car at all times. Place your sweats and shoes next to the bed so you put them right on when you get up. Leaving some things at work is also a good idea because you never know when the opportunity to work out will come up."  http://www.facebook.com/#!/usanahealthsciences
